Frequently Asked Questions

About Heart In Healthcare

What Makes Heart In Healthcare Different from other practices in Alabama?

There are a lot of things we approach differently when it comes to your care. First, our practice operates on membership fees instead of insurance. This means you'll have a set cost for personalized primary care. For healthcare services that aren't covered by your membership (such as labs), we offer cash prices that will be discussed with you before any treatment. This gives you further control over what you pay. Second, your care at our practice is personalized. An insurance company algorithm doesn't decide how we manage your care. We will get to know you and make recommendations based on your individual needs. To make that possible, we offer longer appointment slots than traditional primary care practices. Finally, you get direct access to your primary care doctor at our practice. This means being able to communicate with your doctor via call, text, or e-mail for simple questions. It also means being able to schedule a same-day or next-day appointment when you need it (as available). You're a priority to use and you'll feel like one.

Will I get personalized care at Heart In Healthcare?

Yes, that's the only kind of care we offer! You're a unique person with individual healthcare needs, so we believe our treatment plan should reflect that. Dr. Blalock practices in a direct primary care setting because it gives her time to build a relationship with you and craft primary care solutions designed for you.

Will I benefit from a Heart In Healthcare membership if I don’t require frequent medical attention?

Of course. We might argue that everyone benefits from a service tailored directly to them. That's why we offer truly custom healthcare. Our practice is devoted to the maintenance of your good health and the enhancements of your daily experience that only physical well-being can bring. We're here for your reactive needs. But proactive healthcare is important, and we're here for that too.

Insurance Questions

Can I be a patient if I have Medicare?

Heart In Healthcare is not currently accepting patients with Medicare. We hope to expand access to Medicare patients in the future.

Does Heart In Healthcare accept insurance?

No, and that's a good thing. Perhaps the most critical distinction in our model of care centers on a direct, personal relationship between you and your doctor. That directness carries over to our business model as well. We see no reason for any insurer to have a voice in the quality or the cost of your care here at Heart In Healthcare.

Do I need Health Insurance?

You do not need insurance to be seen at Heart In Healthcare. We recommend our patients have insurance to ensure financial help should hospitalization or specialty care be necessary. If you don't have insurance, we will work with you to find the most cost-effective options for any healthcare needs you have outside our practice. If you do have insurance, you can still use it on any laboratory testing, imaging, medications, or hospitalizations prescribed by our office, as usual. Some ACA plans require care by an in-network PCP.
